Creative Renewal
Creative Renewal: Chakras for Registered Dietitians
A 9-week virtual group experience created for dietitians who want dedicated space to explore their own relationship with body image through creativity, reflection, and community.
As dietitians, we spend so much time supporting others that it can be difficult to make space for our own stories. This group is an invitation to step out of the role of the expert and into the role of participant. To slow down, reconnect with yourself, and explore the same questions you so often invite your clients to consider.
Through art journaling, guided reflection, group discussion, we'll explore themes of safety, creativity, identity, expression, and self-trust through the reflective framework of the seven chakras. An added bonus: weekly recorded Yoga Nidra meditations created by Cherie Oraivej of Reset Yoga Nidra.
No art experience is required. Curiosity, openness, and a willingness to explore are enough.

What participants are saying:
“Creative Renewal gave me the opportunity to rediscover my favorite methods and find new tools and tactics to explore! It was so nice to be among like-minded people who wanted to make art and build a positive relationship with their bodies. Kathy was an enthusiastic guide, providing supplies, direction, ideas and helping connect the dots literally and figuratively.”
“I really appreciated the dedicated time to make art each week and the camaraderie developed having a community.”
We spend our days holding space for others.
What would it be like to have someone hold space for you?
As dietitians, we invite our clients to become curious about their relationship with food, body image, perfectionism, and self-worth. We encourage them to slow down, notice, reflect, and practice something different.
But we’re humans, too.
We live in the same weight-centric culture as our clients. We aren't immune to body image struggles or perfectionism.
This cohort of Creative Renewal was created to give registered dietitians a place to do their own work- in community, through creativity, and without needing to be the expert.
How Creative Renewal Began
Creative Renewal: Chakras was born after I attended a sound bath focused on the sacral chakra- our center for creativity.
I left feeling like a horse chomping at the bit to get an idea out of my head and into my art journal. Over the next few days, I hunted through magazines for the different shades of orange that called to me, tore them into small pieces, journaled and smeared the words that I needed to get out of my head and onto the page, knowing it didn’t matter if I could go back and re-read them. I painted and meditated. I found the words of affirmation that I needed to hear. I created a piece that kept pulling me back to one realization:
The sacral chakra isn't just about creativity.
It's also about pleasure, emotion, and connection.
Those are often the very things diet culture disconnects us from.
As I reflected on my own experience, I realized I was seeing the same pattern in my nutrition clients. When they began reconnecting with creativity, something shifted. They became more playful. More curious. Less focused on fixing themselves. Art journaling became a way to challenge perfectionism, process emotions, and reconnect with themselves beneath the noise of diet culture.
I knew these conversations belonged in a group.
I knew my clients needed this space.
And I was excited to meet them there.
From Clients to Colleagues
Over more than ten years of working with clients, one question has come up again and again:
"Okay...but what do I actually do to improve my body image?"
Creative Renewal became one answer to that question.
Not because it fixes body image.
Because it creates space to practice something different. To have the conversation with ourselves and others.
The first Creative Renewal group lasted four weeks. We explored body stories through art journaling and challenged perfectionism together. Watching participants create confirmed something I had hoped was true: community deepens this work. By the end, trust was just beginning to grow- and I knew I wanted more time.
The addition of the chakra framework offered gentle bumpers- a way to organize conversations around body image, body stories, movement, food, values, voice, intuition, and connection.
Why a Group Just for Registered Dietitians?
We need our own space.
Our own room.
Time for us, together.
Often we come into our work still carrying our own stories.
There may be places where we've done beautiful healing and places that still feel tender.
That's part of being human.
This group isn't about becoming the "perfect" anti-diet dietitian.
It's about giving yourself permission to explore the same questions you're asking your clients to explore.
Because we need space to do our own work.
The very work we invite our clients to do every day.
You don't have to be new to Body Trust® or anti-diet work to benefit from this group. Every time I have worked through these prompts I have learned something new. I’ve uncovered another story that needed rooting out. I’ve gone a little deeper.
I suspect many of us will.
This group is not about becoming a better artist.
It's about becoming more deeply connected to yourself.
Through art journaling, reflection, and community, we'll explore the same questions we so often ask our clients—with curiosity, compassion, and a little less perfectionism.
Is This Group for Me?
This group is for registered dietitians who know supporting clients starts with being willing to do their own work.
Maybe you're newer to anti-diet practice and want a place to deepen your own relationship with body image.
Maybe you've been doing this work for years but still notice perfectionism, self-criticism, or old body stories showing up.
Maybe you're simply craving a creative, thoughtful community of colleagues who understand.
Wherever you are, you're welcome here.
What to Expect Each Week
Each 90-minute session includes:
A brief grounding exercise
An introduction to that week's chakra theme
Guided discussion
Art journaling demonstration with simultaneous time to create
Optional sharing and reflection
What We'll Explore
Over nine weeks we'll explore body image through the lens of the chakra system, using each chakra as a gentle guide for reflection. You don't need any prior knowledge of the chakras. We'll use them as a reflective framework. I think of them as gentle bumpers that give us structure while still leaving plenty of room for curiosity.
We’ll get into:
Rooting ourselves in safety and belonging
Exploring pleasure, creativity, and play
Looking at body image through the chakra themes
Guided journaling prompts, affirmations and meditations to your in-box
Honest conversations with fellow dietitians
A follow-along art journaling demonstration each week
Optional sharing and reflection
Why Art Journaling?
Art journaling brings together creativity, reflection, and self-compassion.
We'll spend time writing, creating, noticing, and connecting- not because the artwork matters, but because the process does.
Creativity helps us slow down.
It challenges perfectionism.
It helps us hear our own voice a little more clearly.
And sometimes it gives us access to thoughts and emotions that words alone can't reach.
No artistic experience is needed.
What You'll Leave With
I don't know exactly what each participant will discover. That's part of the beauty of reflective work. But I do know what I hope you'll carry with you when our nine weeks together come to an end.
My hope is that you'll leave with:
A deeper understanding of your own body story. Not because someone told you what it means, but because you gave yourself the time and space to listen.
More compassion for yourself as both a person and a dietitian. We all carry stories, perfectionism, and old messages. You don't have to have it all figured out to do meaningful work.
A creative practice you can return to. Art journaling can become a way to process, reflect, and reconnect long after the group ends.
Greater confidence talking about body image with clients. Not because you've memorized the "right" words, but because you've explored these conversations in your own life.
Connection with other dietitians. There is something powerful about being with colleagues who understand the work and are willing to show up as humans, not just professionals.
Permission to keep growing. Body image isn't something we finish. It's a relationship we continue to tend with curiosity, honesty, and compassion.
A reminder that growth doesn't have to come through striving. Sometimes it comes through slowing down, making something with your hands, and letting yourself be surprised.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Not at all. Creative Renewal is about reflection, not artistic skill. You'll be invited to explore with simple materials in a supportive environment. There is no expectation that your pages look a certain way. You will be invited to show and share your work but are not required to do so.
-
That's completely okay. You don't need any prior knowledge or spiritual practice.
We'll use the chakra system as a reflective framework rather than a belief system or a way to diagnose or fix ourselves. Each week offers a different doorway into themes like safety, boundaries, creativity, voice, intuition, and connection.
-
No.
Creative Renewal is a reflective experience rather than a continuing education course. While many participants find that the experience influences how they show up in their work, the focus is on your own exploration rather than learning clinical techniques. You may choose to log these hours as independent study for continuing education purposes however no certificates will be provided.

You don't need to have it all figured out.

-
That's a very common place to start.
Many participants worry they "aren't creative enough" or wonder whether they'll fit in. You don't need artistic talent or the "right" answers. Just bring yourself, a willingness to be curious, and permission to make imperfect pages.
Also, let’s chat about it! Email me and let’s find a time to talk it out.
