January Art Journaling Prompt: Labyrinth

Labyrinth

Release • Receive • Reflect

This month’s art journaling practice is a labyrinth — a slow, non-linear way to support reflection and gentle slowing down.

You don’t need special supplies or art skills. This isn’t about getting it right. It’s simply about creating a path you can move through at your own pace.

To begin:
• Turn to a fresh page in your journal.
• Lightly draw a circle — or any shape that feels good to you.
• Starting at the outer edge, draw a slow, winding path toward the center.
• Let the path curve, turn, or wander. There’s no wrong way to do this. Add color, doodles, embellishments as you see fit.

If it helps, you can look up a simple labyrinth for reference — or you can let your hand lead without a plan. You might notice your breath as you draw, or how your hand wants to move across the page.

As you make your way through the path, you might explore three simple invitations:

Release — What feels heavy, draining, or no longer supportive?
Receive — What feels nourishing, steady, or safe to welcome in?
Reflect — What do you notice after slowing down and spending time with both?

There’s no right way to move through this practice. You can linger, pause, skip sections, or simply trace the path. You can add words, color, symbols — or nothing at all.

You may find yourself returning to this labyrinth over a few days, noticing different things each time. Let it meet you where you are.

Some of this work can bring up feelings or memories. Move at a pace that feels supportive, and take care of yourself in whatever ways you need. You don’t need to finish in one sitting — or at all. Let this be a place to pause, not to produce something.

This post includes a few examples of labyrinths created in different ways — some more structured, some more intuitive. These aren’t templates to copy, but gentle reminders that your labyrinth can look however it needs to look.

There’s no “right” version — only the one that supports you today. Happy creating!
